Cognitive Neuroscience Society Annual Meeting

Chiara Perico recently presented at the Cognitive Neuroscience Society Annual Meeting in San Francisco (CA). Chiara, PNLab member, presented some of her Master’s findings on transferability of attentional abilities across domains of attention and perception, using a three-dimensional multiple object tracking (3-D MOT) task. The main goal of her research was to assess whether attentional capacities acquired during training on a 3D MOT task are transferrable to other measures of attention and perception, with a specific focus on the role of feedback as a facilitator of performance and transfer. Some of the most interesting findings showed that feedback has an important role in facilitating attention and increasing the likelihood of learning. As well, feedback improved the transferability of cognitive abilities across different attention tasks. Specifically, these results appear to be applicable to attention domains alone, as no relationship was found between improved MOT performance with or without feedback and perceptual tasks.
